Working with Noor Sciences
Em-Lux is investigational, not FDA cleared and not available for sale. Clinics can work with us today through our clinical study, research collaborations or the launch list.

How embryos are assessed today
Each method in use today answers a different question. None of them measures how the embryo’s cells are functioning without touching the embryo. That is the gap Em-Lux is being developed to fill.
Grading is visual
Grades describe how an embryo looks, and two embryologists can grade the same embryo differently.
Time-lapse adds timing
Time-lapse records when each stage of development happens, but it still observes appearance.
PGT-A needs a biopsy
PGT-A tests chromosomes from cells removed from the embryo. Results come from an outside lab, and not every embryo can be biopsied.
How the methods compare
| Morphology grading | Time-lapse | PGT-A | Em-Lux (investigational) | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| What it assesses | Appearance | Appearance and timing of development | Chromosomes in biopsied cells | Cell metabolism, combined with morphology and patient factors |
| Contact with the embryo | None | None | Biopsy: cells are removed | None: light only, no dyes |
| Where results are produced | In your lab | In your lab | Outside genetics lab | In your lab |
| Time to result | Same day | Continuous during culture | Days; embryos are usually frozen while waiting | Same day |
| Which embryos | All | All cultured in a time-lapse incubator | Only those suitable for biopsy | Designed for all, including those not suitable for biopsy |
| Status | Standard practice | Available | Available | Investigational; not FDA cleared |
This table describes what each method measures. It does not claim that Em-Lux improves clinical outcomes. We expect Em-Lux to be used alongside grading and PGT-A, not in place of them.
What Em-Lux is designed to provide
Data beside your grading
- A metabolic image and EMMI category for each embryo, shown next to your own assessment
- A quantitative measurement, designed to rely less on visual judgment and to read the same across staff
- Embryos sorted by score; the final decision stays with you
Fits the lab you run
- Scan and read-out in your lab; no samples sent out
- Guided four-step workflow with automated imaging and analysis
- Single benchtop unit and a single-use imaging dish
More to discuss with patients
- Non-invasive: nothing is removed from or added to the embryo
- Information for patients who decline PGT-A or whose embryos cannot be biopsied
- Results available the same day, in time for the transfer decision
These describe what Em-Lux is designed to do. Em-Lux is investigational, and its clinical performance has not been established or reviewed by the FDA.
How Em-Lux fits into your lab's workflow
Em-Lux adds one step before the transfer or freeze decision. It is designed to fit around the steps your lab already follows, without changing them.
- EXISTINGRetrieval and fertilizationAs your lab does today.
- EXISTINGCulture to day 5In your incubator, under your protocol.
- EXISTINGMorphology gradingYour embryologists grade as usual.
- EM-LUX STEPEm-Lux scanAbout 6 to 8 minutes for a dish of 6 to 8 embryos.
- EXISTINGTransfer or freezeYour team decides, with the EMMI report as added information.
Inside the Em-Lux step
- 01Dish goes inThe embryologist places the dish in Em-Lux on the bench.
- 02ScanAbout 1 minute per embryo, using light only.
- 03ScoreEMMI reports a viability score for each embryo and ranks them.
- 04ReviewThe embryologist reviews the ranking and makes the decision.
What does not change
- Culture protocolUnchanged.
- The incubatorStays in place.
- Grading workflowRuns as it does today.
- Embryo handlingNo contact with the embryo.
- Clinical decisionsStay with your embryologists and physicians.
Shaped by hundreds of conversations with embryologists and lab directors. Em-Lux is investigational and available only in research studies.
How it fits your lab
The practical details lab directors ask about first.

- Scan time per embryo
- About 1 minute
- Time per dish
- About 6 to 8 minutes for 6 to 8 embryos
- Hands-on time
- Designed to keep handling and workflow impact to a minimum
- Temperature and gas during imaging
- Maintained during imaging by external temperature and gas control units
- Bench footprint
- Benchtop unit, about the size of a tower PC
- Dish
- Single-use glass-bottom imaging dish
- Data and records
- Full report for each patient and embryo. EMR integration is not yet available.
- Installation and training
- On-site installation, training and ongoing support
